ADOPTING WITH US.
Interested in adopting?
Our dogs have had a turbulent life - from surviving on the streets to recovering from abuse and/or neglect. Their foster home may have been the first loving home they have experienced.
Every mutt entered into our care will go through the following vetting protocol as a minimum. This is included in the adoption fee. We consult with our trusted vet if there are required medical procedures over and above what’s listed below:
spay/neuter prior to 6 months of age, including pre-anesthetic bloodwork
up to date on DHPP, rabies, and bordetella vaccines
microchip
fecal test and deworming regimen, if needed
flea/tick prevention
4dx bloodwork
brucellosis bloodwork (done only for adults from a puppy mill)
Our mutts spend at least 2-3 weeks in their foster homes. This time allows our mutt to relax and show us their true personality. This is how we can provide the most accurate bio to their prospective adopters. Gaining this detailed knowledge about our mutt allows our adoption team to select the potential forever family that would be the best fit for them!
Welcoming a dog into your family is a big decision - it requires patience, understanding, time, and financial resources.
Please read through the bios very carefully and apply for the MUTT who you can help thrive.
General adoption process.
Complete an adoption application
The adoptions team will review all submitted applications for the available mutt;The applicant who we feel is the best fit for the mutt will be contacted by a member of the adoptions team to schedule a phone interview. All adults living in the home must be present for on the adoptions call;
We will conduct reference checks with your vet (if applicable) and personal references;
We will conduct a virtual home visit;
A meet and greet with the mutt and foster is then scheduled. All members of the household, dogs included, must attend this meet and greet.
Should you be approved, a congratulatory email will be sent to you. You will then be asked to sign the adoption contract and pay the adoption fee within 48 hours of receiving the e-mail.
PLEASE NOTE:
We expect your MUTT will join your home approximately 2 weeks after the initial adoption discussion.
All dogs and/or cats in the applicant’s household MUST be spayed/neutered and up-to-date UTD with vaccines.
adoption fees.
A puppy up to 8 months is $1,000*
A dog 9 months and older is $850
* Unaltered puppies can join their adoptive families; however, they must be brought to one of our partner clinics (either Mississauga or east-end Toronto) for their series of puppy vaccines, rabies vaccines and spay/neuter, which will be completed before six months of age.
In 2024, the average vetting cost of our dogs was $1330.00 per dog, which does not include supplies or transport. The fees vary greatly per mutt depending on their medical needs.
Bringing Home Your MUTT:
We fit all our mutts with Martingale collars to prevent slippage, which will go home with them and we expect your mutt to wear this collar during the transition period, as it ensures their security and helps prevent opportunities for your mutt to escape.
Adopters must supply their own nylon leash, NO retractable leashes. Ensure you have food and water bowls and a crate ready at home to welcome your mutt.
PLEASE NOTE: Adoption requirements and fees are subject to change without notice.
